CLINICS - PRICES & BOOKING
KERRY IRELAND
Dates: 21-25 Sept 2009

Where: staying at Jamie Knox’s fabulous centre on the shores of Brandon Bay on the Dingle peninsula. Jamie’s B and B is first class. The Nordic style bedrooms are wood-clad, warm, en suite with thundering power showers. There’s a spacious living room and the breakfast has been voted the best in Ireland (by me for a start).

you may get to sail with Funghi the famous dolphin

What: it’s an ‘introduction to …/improve your ...wave sailing week. We go through the theory, the tactics, the skills and techniques of riding and jumping waves. When conditions allow, surfing and Stand-Up Paddling (SUP)is also a big part of the week.

.

Equipment: Jamie or myself may have the odd demo board and rig on hand but it’s basically a ‘bring your own’ situation.

Ideally you want a free-ride/free-move allrounder that takes a 6.5 and gets you going in 15 knots of wind; and, of course, a wave board.
One of the key and most overlooked wave riding skills is that of being able to 'bog' out on days when the swell is clean but the wind is light. The ideal weapon for that is a floaty 90 ish litre wave board. If you're driving over, you might as well bring everything!

Standard: It’s a wave sailing course so you have to able to waterstart 100% and be happy sailing a small sub 100 litre board in strong winds on the open sea. However, more important than being able to crack out sweet planing gybes, is water confidence. If you’re fit and happy splashing around in breaking surf, you’ll be fine.
What's it all about. It's a mobile course. We all have cars or vans. Starting off every morning at Jamie's, we check the wind and swell and head for whichever part of the peninsula is providing the goods. Often we'll have two sessions a day changing venue perhaps to move from a jumping to a riding bias. In the evenings we replay the action on the big screen at the centre before eating out at the famous Spillanes or one of many other excellent pubs or restaurants in the area.

THE DEAL
Clinic Cost  £285 (payable to PH)
Accommodation 250 Euro (payable locally) for 6 nights B&B includes use of surfboards and SUPs
To Book  - tel Jeremy or Jamie   on 00 353 667 139411 or email:  jamieknox@eircom.net

Transport: most choose to drive but there's a Ryan Air service from Stanstead to Kerry Airport (approx 40 mins from the centre)

Ferry: The overnight Swansea/Cork ferry with its excellent bar and Irish quality Guiness, is not in commission til spring 2010 so for those travelling from the south, the Fishguard (or Pembroke) to Rosslaire service run by both Stena and Irish Ferries are the best bet. Dingle is about a 4-5 hour drive from Rosslaire.
If you're coming from further north, you'd favour the Holyhead/Dunlairghaire service also run by Stena.

Of course it depends on the route and whether you go for the 'Fast Ferry' or the standard chugger but a van and up to 4 people return will cost around £250.

The Knox centre can offer advice on all ferry crossings and can book them for you.

All bookings through Jeremy Owen at the Jamie Knox Centre on 00 353 667 139411 or email:  jamieknox@eircom.net
